What I Wore Wednesday

September 4, 2013 | Fashion, fashion friday, monday mingle, today's outfit, WIWW

pleated poppy

Spring has sprung!! While we are still having rainy, stormy days here in Perth, we are having more and more sunny days – some of them could even be called warm. Flowers have started to bloom, you can see green buds everywhere, and the days are noticeably longer – it is just delightful! As for fashion, layers are really coming in handy and the preppier side of my closet is winning out.

This weather just screams nautical, don’t you think? I love the look of Breton tops, but have never found one that suits me; they are usually bateau necked which is not great on a larger bust. This knit, while not a Breton exactly, still gives me the look while being much more flattering on my shape. Paired with dark denim and red patent flats, I’ve got a pulled together casual look perfect for my lifestyle and shape.

Striped knit: Sportscraft
Boot cut jeans: Gap
Red patent flats: Witchery
Charm bracelets: Pandora

While the weather is still in-between, darker colours still look appropriate, especially when lightened up with a hit of florals. It’s hard to see in the pic, but the blouse underneath is a lovely floral on a navy background – it’s great now with dark jeans and a light weight black jacket, but will be wonderful with white jeans or a denim skirt further into spring.

Floral blouse: Old Navy
Black lightweight jacket: CaBI
Slim cut jeans: Ann Taylor
Black booties: Wittner
Charm bracelets: Pandora

I needed this knit trench in the morning, but by 10 am it was warm enough to wander around in a short sleeved tee. Shame I was inside most of the day!

Black tee: Gap
Black ponte pants: Ann Taylor
Camel knit trench: CaBI
Gold necklace: Marc Jacobs
Black wedge booties: Wittner

It was very cold today, so out came multiple layers and cord pants, hopefully for the last time! If you like the look of a collared shirt under a knit, but don’t like the bulk, I highly recommend these Skinny Shirts – they have a cotton collar (and cuffs on their long sleeve version), but the body is a slinky camisole type of knit, giving a really sleek, smooth line.

Blue shirt: Skinny Shirt
Blue sweater: Sportscraft
Paisley cords: Sportscraft
Black wedge booties: Wittner

Spring totally brings out my preppy side, and this outfit is preppy and nautical, even better. You can’t see clearly, but the tee has a really fun anchor print all over it. Unfortunately, I washed it with something (still can’t figure out what) that left highly visible blue/black smudges all over it, so it’s now relegated to housework clothes 🙁

Anchor tee: Sportscraft
Printed jeans: Old Navy
Navy linen blazer: Sportscraft
Gold initial necklace: C Wonder
Brown loafers: Louenhide

See you all next week!!
